IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Press Contact: Theresa Petry, (314) 807-7077

Missouri Right to Life Endorses Ed Martin

(ST. LOUIS, MO.) June 21, 2010 – Ed Martin is honored to announce that Missouri Right to Life has endorsed his candidacy for Congress in Missouri’s 3rd district. Martin has long been an effective voice for the protection of innocent life. As Director of the Human Rights Office for the Archdiocese of St. Louis, one of the youngest directors of his kind in the United States, Ed re-focused the office on the needs of families, neighborhoods, seniors, children, and the un-born. He has worked tirelessly to protect the unborn and stand up to the Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

Congressman Russ Carnahan on the other hand proudly supports abortion of every type and believes taxpayer dollars should fund it. Carnahan voted to funnel federal dollars to Planned Parenthood. It’s not surprising that these votes benefitted his family; Carnahan’s wife,Debra, presided for many years as a director of the national board of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

“This is classic Washington, D.C. conduct – looking out for your own special interests. Not only is abortion immoral and wrong but voting to steer federal tax dollars to an organization which your wife has a vested interest is a conflict of interest and unethical. It’s typical behavior of Congressman Carnahan – he just recently voted to award his brother $90 million in federal stimulus funding. This sort of insider game is an insult to Missourians and all taxpayers,” said congressional candidate Ed Martin.

Missouri’s 3rd district has, for too long now, gone unprotected. The Carnahan family has a long history of not protecting the most vulnerable in our society. Mel Carnahan, when serving as Missouri’s Governor, three times vetoed partial birth abortion bans passed by Republican and Democrat legislators. These vetoes marked a low point in our state and national history.

We must take action to protect those who cannot speak for themselves. It is truly a life and death matter and Missouri’s 3rd district needs a congressman who will support policies that protect the unborn and prevent tax dollars from being used for abortions.

For more information about Martin’s background and the campaign, visit EdMartinforCongress.com, or follow him on Facebook and Twitter @ed4congress.

Concerned Women Political Action Committee Endorses Community Activist and Former Gubernatorial Chief of Staff, Ed Martin for Congress in Missouri’s 3rd Congressional District

Ed is a fearless seasoned pro-life, pro-family advocate who will take liberal Russ Carnahan head on

Washington, D.C. – Concerned Women Political Action Committee (CWPAC) announces its endorsement of Ed Martin for Congress in Missouri’s 3rd Congressional District.

“Ed Martin is a man of strong convictions. He is unafraid to protect the unborn and families and will vigorously fight destructive government policies,” said Penny Nance, CEO of Concerned Women Political Action Committee.

“We strongly endorse Ed Martin in this race for the simple reason that he is right on the issues for Missouri families and for our country. He isn’t afraid to expose Russ Carnahan’s liberal voting record and lock-step obedience to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and her liberal agenda.

“I am convinced that Ed Martin has the strong grassroots support as well as the financial backing he needs to win this race for conservatives.”

Concerned Women PAC, established in 2002 by Mrs. Beverly LaHaye, is affiliated with Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee, the nation’s largest public policy women’s organization with more than 500,000 grassroots members nationwide.

The incumbent congressman from Missouri’s third Congressional District is Russ Carnahan. Congressman Carnahan will be running for his fourth term in 2010. Mr. Carnahan’s rating with Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee (CWALAC) is poor, having voted against the CWALAC position nearly 40 times in a three term career.

Rep. Carnahan voted for the monstrous government take-over of America’s health care which will fund abortion, ration health care, cause doctors to leave the profession, increase insurance premiums and cripple the country with massive debt.

Rep. Carnahan voted against the Stupak Amendment which would have prohibited government coverage for abortions in the health care bill.

Rep. Carnahan voted in favor of the omnibus bill which included an increase of $10 million for Title X funding with the bulk of those taxpayer dollars going to Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in the U.S. The omnibus bill also gave $103 million to international “family planning” organizations, in effect forcing American taxpayers to indirectly promote and fund abortions abroad.

Mrs. Penny Nance and Concerned Women Political Action Committee’s mission is to elect solid pro-family, pro-life conservatives to Congress. Concerned Women PAC sends out a monthly letter to members encouraging them to financially support candidates like Ed Martin. For more information on this race or to set up an interview with Mrs. Nance, please contact Mike Mears at 202-408-4941.

I have been fortunate in that I have been able to be at the birth of each of my children. Each time I have held them gingerly, swaddled in receiving blankets and capped with that soft knitted hat nurses place on their tiny heads to preserve their warmth. Each time I have been overwhelmed by the responsibility of having such a little one dependent on me for their sustenance.

Both my wife and I are professionals with good incomes. We each have a very deep bench of aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents to turn to for support in time of need – or just in times when we need a break. Then of course I have my church family who provide many hands and a great deal of wisdom. Despite all these resources, I have found myself weak-kneed when looking at the tiny, helpless face of one of my children.

I am very sympathetic to the plight of a woman facing an unexpected pregnancy without the kind of support we enjoy. I witnessed the effects that my wife’s pregnancies have had on her. I saw the struggles she went through. I cannot imagine going through that alone.

The truth is no woman need go through child bearing alone; neither need they raise a child alone. Throughout Missouri there are shelters, agencies and ministries whose single focus is to provide for the needs of women who have become pregnant and fear for the future. Mothers who choose to have their little one and accept the responsibility of parenting will find countless gentle hands and open hearts to help them. Mothers will also find thousands of families who are eager to adopt children without reservation. There are myriad people of good will who are prepared to help any woman make the life-affirming choice.

I believe that life is the only choice that can be defended morally. I know that it can be a daunting one. If you need help with your pregnancy, please know that there is more help than you realize, more than you might dare hope for. Just do an internet search for “Abortion Alternatives” and see the dozens of organizations ready to come beside you and hold you up. My prayer for you is that you may be blessed with that at once awesome and wonderful feeling that comes upon seeing your baby wrapped in a blanket, wrapped in your arms and wrapped around your heart.
