White House hints Carnahan is No-Show Due to Tough Re-Election

(ST. LOUIS, MO.) March 10, 2010 – President Obama’s sales pitch for health care reform in St. Louis was missing one key supporter, Rep. Russ Carnahan. Where was Rubberstamp Russ? One could contend the Congressman has spent so much time in Washington he’s forgotten the way to his district. But there may be an even more telling reason why Carnahan didn’t bother to attend the speech in St. Charles. The National Journal, in regards to Democrats who didn’t show up for the speech in Pennsylvania, reported ”…incumbents who could face tough re-election fights, were not expected to attend the event, according to the WH.” (National Journal March 8, 2010) In a follow-up Wednesday it said. “It wouldn’t be unprecedented if Costello or potentially vulnerable Rep. Russ Carnahan (D-MO) stayed away from the Obama event.” (National Journal March 10, 2010)

Carnahan has a habit of being a no-show in Missouri. He has turned a blind eye and deaf ear to the people ofthe 3rd district. He’s only held one town hall on the matter and attempted to orchestrate it by filling the seats with only select people he wanted to hear. The chaos and violence that ensued from Carnahan’s people is well documented.

Meanwhile Congressional candidate Ed Martin has held several town halls with nearly a thousand citizens participating. Carnahan was invited to each one but of course was a no-show. A town hall held in St. Charles Wednesday morning drew a crowd of some 2200. Ed Martin was there again listening to the people. “This is the Show-Me State and Rep. Carnahan is and has been a no-show in our district for too long now. People deserve someone who will represent them and you have to listen to the people to truly represent them. The people are saying loud and clear ‘No means No’ but Congressman Carnahan is out-of-touch with his constituents,” said Ed Martin.

Rubberstamp Russ has been all too happy to appease his puppet masters, the President and Pelosi. His voting record is proof. Yet Carnahan was nowhere to be seen at Obama’s speech and the fundraiser following was for Sen. Claire McCaskill who isn’t up for re-election until 2012. Considering Carnahan, according to the Cook report and a number of articles, is facing a “tough re-election” one would think such a loyal steward would be rewarded with his own fundraiser.

However, the courts, politicians and many commentators have interpreted (and re-interpreted) the Commerce Clause, the general Welfare Clause and Necessary and Proper Clause in ways not intended by the Founders so as to justify such programs under the Constitution. They are most certainly wrong. A number of states are considering legislation to effectively nullify any future national health care plan.

IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Press Contact: Theresa Petry, (314) 807-7077

Call to Release All Documents Surrounding $90 Million Stimulus Dollars Allocated for Tom Carnahan’s Wind Farm

(ST. LOUIS, MO.) March 5, 2010 – The National Environmental Scorecard just gave Rep. Russ Carnahan a top score but didn’t delve into his incentive for going green. The public deserves to know and today 3rd district Congressional candidate Ed Martin sent Carnahan a letter requesting he release all documents regarding the $90 million stimulus dollars allocated for his brother’s windmill farm in DeKalb County, Missouri.

“In what reads like a fictional account of nepotism and corruption, Congressman Russ Carnahan voted for a so-called “stimulus” bill that not only did not create jobs in his district but allowed his brother to receive $90 million in taxpayer money for his company to then purchase foreign parts,” said Ed Martin.

Tom Carnahan’s $300 million wind farm “was on hold” Vice President Joe Biden told reporters while visiting a mid-Missouri factory last spring. But Biden went on say thanks to the Federal Economic Recovery Act, “We’re going to get companies like this windmill company to be able to move forward.” Interesting how it all magically changed, after his brother Russ cast his vote for the Federal Stimulus bill.”We never really liked to say it out loud,” said Tom Carnahan, president/founder of Wind Capital Group. “A few months ago, the banks were closed. Banks now have confidence to move forward … The stimulus changed everything.” (St. Joseph News, Alyson E. Raletz, April 17, 2009)

Boy did it! The stimulus funneled $90 million taxpayer’s dollars into Tom Carnahan’s project. The Democratic Policy Committee acknowledged and even touted the earmark stating, “Missouri’s largest wind energy development, funded by the Recovery Act…” (DPC, website Nov. 5, 2009)

So let’s get this straight – A proposed $300 million wind farm couldn’t even get banks to call them back for two years, but then Rep. Russ Carnahan votes to approve the Stimulus bill, and out of the blue his brother’s company is notified it will get $90 million in stimulus funds and now banks are lining up. Hmmm…pardon us for saying so but something seems a bit fishy. Should we conclude that if you need money all it takes is a family member in power?

Constituents of the 3rd district sure aren’t getting any of the windfall. The wind farm isn’t anywhere near them. And now they’re hearing part of their hard earned money given to Tom Carnahan might be going out of the country. There is a lot of controversy clouding windmill projects recently. Several Democrats in the U.S. Senate have voiced concern that the money being doled out to wind farms is in fact not creating American jobs. Senator Charles Schumer put the brakes on several wind farm deals claiming the money received from the stimulus plan for building wind turbines should stay in the US. (Global Association of Risk Professional,Thursday, December 31, 2009)

While Tom Carnahan’s company likes to claim their project “Lost Creek” will use “most” components produced in the United States. Just how much is “most?” Tom himself said in a St. Louis Post Dispatch interview the turbines he has were built in India. “…They build the turbines in India, and now they’re building the blades in Minnesota,” said Tom Carnahan. (St. Louis Post-Dispatch November 7, 2008)

Maybe Rep. Carnahan will use the excuse he didn’t read the bill and didn’t know his brother would benefit so grandly from it. Are we expected to buy that? Well at least that is a product of the U.S.

IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Press Contact: Theresa Petry, (314) 807-7077

Carnahan and Rangel- Two Peas in a Pod?

(ST. LOUIS, MO.) March 4, 2010 – New York Rep. Charlie Rangel announced Wednesday he will temporarily step down as chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. His leave of absence comes in light of an ethics committee report citing a long list of violations and his fellow Democrats turning their backs on him. Speaker Nancy Pelosi who has been in Rangel’s corner from the start just decided not to continue endorsing Rangel.

Where is Rep. Russ Carnahan on the issue? He voted not once but twice in favor of turning a blind eye to the corruption clearly rampant among his crooked cronies like Rangel in Congress.

In July, 2008 Carnahan voted to table an effort to censure Rangel regarding an audit of his taxes and campaign violations. (AP August 1, 2008) Congressman Carnahan obviously doesn’t see anything wrong with Rangel’s campaign finance “work.” Why would he? Carnahan himself is blameworthy of campaign ethics violations. He probably felt sorry for Rangel knowing how hard it can be when you’re caught. Carnahan was leader of the Missouri House Democratic Campaign Committee when the state Ethics Commission found him culpable of various violations. (AP March 23, 2006)

There was a call for Rangel to lose his committee post too but thanks to his partners in profiteering, like Carnahan and Pelosi, Rangel remained. (AP Sept. 18, 2008) So despite documents from an ethics committee report that Rangel violated House rules by taking corporate funded trips to the Caribbean, he stayed in his position of power. We can thank Congressman Carnahan for his continued support of this sort of corruption. Actually these types of trips seem to be one of Carnahan’s favorite parts of the job. Rubberstamp Russ was called out recently by the New York Times as being a leader in taking privately funded Congressional trips. Sorry Congressman these trips aren’t just a perk of the job – don’t try to use Rangel’s excuse of “oops I didn’t know.” These types of back room deals prevalent in Washington are not acceptable –not in America.

“The amount of cover-ups and the whole ‘I’ve got your back if you’ve got mine’ mentality is an epidemic plaguing Congress. You can’t re-write the rule book to fit your desires. You have Rangel who is in charge of this powerful tax-writing committee in cahoots with the likes of Carnahan and Pelosi and they are deciding our future. Rangel and the rest of his shady cohorts should take a permanent leave of office,” said 3rd Congressional Candidate Ed Martin.

Don’t Like It? –They Don’t Care

(ST. LOUIS, MO.) March 4, 2010 – President Obama’s threat of using reconciliation to ram through his health care reform has people on edge. It became the focus of the “We the People Health Care Summit” Wednesday night hosted by 3rd district Congressional candidate Ed Martin.

One speaker, who declared he’s not a Republican, vented frustration over the so-called “reform.” He told the crowd, “The whole world knows we don’t want the health care but they will push it through regardless…Well my blinders are off.” More than half of Americans are against Democrats using reconciliation to pass a health care bill, according to a Gallup survey. RealClearPolitics.com which tracks polls on health care reform reports the average support for the reform is only 40.8 percent. The American people do not want this plan, yet the President intends to force it upon us.

It’s no surprise Rubberstamp Russ Carnahan supports it. His voting record earned him that nickname among others like “Pelosi’s puppet.” Rep. Carnahan posted this comment to his website, “It’s time to have an up or down vote on whether to reform our health care system…I refuse to turn my back on people I represent when our broken system requires action to improve our economy and our health care.” Yet he is turning his back on the majority of people. Carnahan doesn’t even have a clue what the health care reform bill entails or how much it would cost. He became a laughing stock when he tried to sell people on the idea that the plan would create a surplus.

“The Congressional Budget Office most recently came out and analyzed the current plan and said that it was not only deficit-neutral, which has been one of the important factors for the President and congressional leaders, but also that over 10 years it would create a $6 billion surplus,” Carnahan told an audience on July 20, 2009, at Forest Park Community College in St. Louis. The audience laughed in response.(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hoqfzwzgT8) The Congressional Budget Office reported the bill would create a $239 Billion deficit.

“Carnahan needs to wake up and listen to the people before casting any vote. The people of Missouri’s third district deserve to hear Carnahan detail exactly what is in the bill –including the earmarks left in it. And since the majority doesn’t want this government take-over of health care he also needs to explain why he supports pushing it through anyway. People deserve to know why their representative refuses to actually represent them,” said Ed Martin.

How can Carnahan, Pelosi, and the President justify reconciliation? Obama according to past statements doesn’t believe in using it. “You’ve got to break out of what I call, sort of, the 50-plus-one pattern of presidential politics,” said the then Senator Obama. (Fox News, 2007) In 2005 Obama said, “A vehicle designed for deficit reduction and fiscal responsibility has been hijacked to facilitate reckless deficits and unsustainable debt.” (US News & World Report, Peter Roff, March 3, 2010)

If despite the people’s wishes reconciliation is used and they force a government take-over of health care it will undoubtedly change our world in such a way it will take decades to set straight. The crowd Wednesday night at the “We the People Health Care Summit” took some comfort in the fact that much of the bill being contemplated won’t be implemented for years.

“If it is somehow pushed through I promise, when voted in, to do everything in my power to repeal it. I will do what Carnahan refuses to do. I will take a stand for the people and be the sand in the gears of the implementation of it. We can and must stop it,” said Martin.

The Health Care bills before congress are wildly unpopular with the American people. We simply do not believe that the Federal government can deliver on their promise to cover more people and spend less money. Elections in Virginia, New Jersey, and Massachusetts should have told them all they need to know about the popularity of big government solutions.

Now congress is preparing to simply ram it through. Russ Carnahan voted for the bill the first time, promoted it with a taxpayer-funded mailer sent to the folks in his district and lamely defended his choice. Members of his party representing state districts within the larger district overwhelmingly voted to ask the congressional delegation to oppose the health care takeover. We had a packed house show up and in unison demand that Congressman Carnahan stand against this legislation.

Did he get the hint?

I’m holding a We the People Health Care Summit Wednesday March 3rd at Two Hearts Banquet center. There are plenty of relatively simple solutions that can be tried to reform the flaws in our system without wrecking what is the best health care system in the world. Join me in a discussion about what you want to see change.

Finally, if Russ won’t come to us, we’ll take you to him. We’ll have people on hand to video tape your thoughts to your elected representatives. If you’ve a mind to, say your piece and we’ll get it on a DVD and see to it that the disk is delivered to Russ Carnahan’s office

All are welcome, this is your forum to speak your mind.

IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Press Contact: Theresa Petry, (314) 807-7077

We the People Health Care Summit

If Carnahan refuses to meet with the people – we’ll take the people’s message to Carnahan

(ST. LOUIS, MO.) March 3, 2010 – No matter how you slice it the majority of people don’t want the Health Care reform President Obama and liberal Democrats are trying to force on them. Last week’s Health Care Summit did nothing to change that fact. Yet Obama and Congressman Carnahan refuse to listen to the people they are supposed to be serving.

Carnahan has been invited to attend a “We the People Health Care Summit” Wednesday, March 3rd. The meeting is open to the public. No one will be given choice seats, refused entry, or turned away like we saw happen at the one town hall Carnahan tried to hold.

In typical Russ Carnahan fashion he is expected to ignore the invite sent to him and turn his back on the people of the 3rd district. His obvious lack of interest made this headline in The Missouri Record “RepCarnahan Embarrasses Missouri.” The journalist went on to assert this criticism:

“One gets the impression that Carnahan will vote however he is told, but since no one has told him what to do, he just sits patiently…Whatever the solution, Missourians can be confident that none of it will originate with Rep Carnahan.” (Patrick Tuohey, The Missouri Record, Jan. 27, 2010)

“Congressman Carnahan needs to listen to the people, like I do; if he did he would know how to vote in Washington. And he could actually be proactive and help come up with a health care reform bill that was by the people –for the people,” said 3rd district Congressional candidate Ed Martin.

What: “We the People Health Care Summit”

When: Wednesday, March 3rd from 7pm-9pm (the last town hall drew more than 450 and continued past 9pm to allow everyone a chance to talk)

Where: Two Hearts Banquet Center located at 4532 South Lindbergh Blvd.

Anyone wanting to address Congressman Carnahan, voice concerns, or make a comment is encouraged to do so. All comments will be recorded and sent to Carnahan since it seems he won’t be able to attend yet again.

***Missourians aren’t just standing by waiting. In addition to voicing their concerns a proposed bill, the MO Healthcare Freedom Act, was set to be debated on the House floor today. The bill to stop federal intervention on health care choices would put it to a vote of the people in November.

One of the more amazing parts of this campaign has been to make new friends and to realize that these new friends believe in me and our campaign. It is humbling and feels even a little scary – it’s a lot of pressure in some ways. One new friend is Pastor Bruce McCoy. Pastor McCoy is a hard-working Baptist pastor in south St. Louis County who is helping me. (In fact, he was the first “public” person to endorse me!). He is a good and holy man who I admire and who gives me good counsel.

When I was asked to give the Invocation, I thought of Pastor McCoy – I figured he could give me some tips. I went to read some of his words and came upon his speech/invocation from the Glenn Beck event a few weeks ago. I decided to use it. Here it is with my minor adaptations.

Thanks.
Ed

Ed Martin Invocation at Lincoln Days, February 26, 2010 (as prepared)

Tonight, it is my privilege to lead us in prayer. Some among you – Lloyd Smith to name a name! – have expressed concern that I might talk off topic and say, discuss my Twitter feed @ed4congress or my facebook fan page facebook.com/edmartinforcongress.

I will not do this. Instead, I prefer to read to you a prayer given by my dear friend, Pastor Bruce McCoy of Caanan Baptist Church in south St. Louis County. Pastor McCoy, the President of the Missouri Baptist Convention is a friend and support of my campaign … (pause) … you can find out more about what interests him in my campaign at www.EdMartinforCongress.com.

Here is my adaptation of Pastor McCoy’s prayer which was somewhat longer in its original.

Bruce’s Speech and Prayer: at Glenn Beck Rally, held by Constitutional Coalition, 2-5-10.

In the summer of 1776 – 56 men met together in Philadelphia – to sign a new document. That parchment was to stand forever as a partnership between the living, the dead and the yet unborn. We call it: The Declaration of Independence. Those men considered liberty so much more important than security – they pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor. They fulfilled their pledge; they paid the price; and freedom was born! (adapted from friend, Derrick Johnson.)

Our Founding Fathers wrote into the Declaration of Independence that majestic reference to “our Creator” with the certainty that, someday, they would meet their Maker.

They openly acknowledged God. And, they knew that God, not government, is the Giver of our freedom. What God has given, no man has the right to take away. As both a religious leader and a concerned citizen, I do not suggest a Church-run state or a state-run Church. But, banning the public acknowledgment of God is a tyranny “foreign” to our Founding Fathers and risks forfeiting the blessing of the Almighty!

I am the son of a WWII veteran who suffered as a P.O.W. in Nazi Germany. My dad, 88 – taught me to be proud of our nation. And now – we look into the deep of a new darkness that requires each of us to shine the light of Liberty on the neglected pages of our Constitution.

One of the things I admire about Glenn Beck is that he does not view the United States’ Constitution in the light of our times, but rather, he seems to view our times in the light of our Constitution. Most of us here tonight probably agree that our nation has strayed from the Original Intent of our Founding Fathers.

In the same way, I stand before you as a Minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ as one who does not view the Bible in the light of our times, but rather, I view our times in the light of the Bible. And, “all we like sheep have gone astray…” We have strayed from the Original Intent of God’s plan for us.

Our Founding Fathers understood the fallen nature of humanity. So, they crafted the “checks and balances” within our three branches of government. The Bible tells us, what they knew well, that “All of have sinned….” (Rm. 3:23) We say it this way, “Nobody is perfect.”

The Bible is filled with prophecies that describe the Things to Come. God’s Word tells us how to be prepared for the future. I am going to ask you to consider for a brief moment – the Original Intent of “Our Creator” – Who…sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to pay for our sins.

Prayer: Before I pray – listen to the Words of Jesus Christ:

“For God so loved the world (that’s people…you & me) That He gave (that’s free) His only Son (that’s Jesus Christ) That whosoever (that’s anybody) Believes in Him (that’s faith) Should not perish (that’s mercy – being saved from eternal hell) But have everlasting life (that’s the favor of God; He wants us to live with Him – forever).

“Lord God, please restore this nation to become again – that “shining city set on a hill.” Restore us to the Original Intent of our Founding Fathers. And then, individually, restore us, as we repent of our own sin, to You, the God of our Fathers. Restore us to the Original Intent of Your plan for the future of our soul. That if we will confess with our mouth and believe in our heart that Jesus is Lord – we will be forgiven. Have mercy on us, Lord. And may the truth of the Gospel of God continue – to go marching on!”

Lord, bless this food, those who prepared it and those who will do without tonight.

And I am careful to pray this prayer in the Name of my Lord: Jesus Christ.

Amen!
