Ed Martin is hosting another town hall on Veterans’ Affairs Thursday July 8, 2010.Congressman Mac Thornberry of Texas, a senior member of the Armed Services Committee, and Joe Frank, past National Commander of the American Legion will be in attendance to hear directly from our local Veterans. Martin has also extended an invite to Congressman Russ Carnahan.

What: Town Hall on Veterans’ Affairs

When: Thursday July 8, 2010 5-7 pm

Where: Two Hearts Banquet Center – 4532 South Lindbergh Boulevard St Louis, MO 63127

Why: To address any concerns regarding our Veterans, specifically issues surrounding the recent health violations at John Cochran VA hospital

“For too long now the voices of our Veteran’s have fallen on deaf ears. I cannot sit by and watch as the very men and women who put their lives on the line for our freedom are cast aside and mistreated. If there is a known enemy or obstacle putting our Veterans in harm’s way it should not be ignored but rather addressed immediately. I want to hear the concerns of our Veterans and, when elected, promise to work tirelessly to in return help fight for them,” said Ed Martin.

Ed Martin is honored to have Congressman Mac Thornberry on hand at the town hall to help immediately address any grievances and/or interests of our local Veterans.

Ed Martin, whose brother is a Marine, has a deep and personal concern for the treatment of our Veterans. He has requested, when elected, to be assigned to the Veteran’s Affairs Committee in order to oversee and help protect Veterans. At a town hall for Veterans this past March Ed Martin received a written endorsement from Joe Frank, the Past National

Press Contact: Theresa Petry, (314) 807-7077

Town Hall to take Action

(ST. LOUIS, MO.) May 3, 2010 –The Census Bureau estimates there are 10.8 million illegal immigrants living in the U.S. today. Bear Stearns claims the real number is actually double that. Despite the staggering number, President Obama admitted last Wednesday, he doesn’t think Congress will address immigration this year after taking on so many controversial issues and it being an election year. (CBS News, Political Hotsheet, April 29, 2010)

The President’s comment leads one to think that he believes protecting a few votes is more important than protecting America. We can no longer sit by and watch as American jobs and security are taken from us.

“Immigration is a privilege; illegal immigration is a crime. We must secure our borders – now! My opponent has voted against border protection and therefore against the American people and it’s hurting all of us from security issues to job issues,” said 3rd district Congressional candidate Ed Martin.

There are reports and statistics that serve as evidence that the illegal immigration issue is in dire need of attention, regardless of whether it may cost a few votes. Rubberstamp Russ Carnahan has, for too long now, turned a blind eye on the job loss and lack of security for the constituents of Missouri’s third district. Actions must be taken to turn around the following statistics:

“15 percent of construction and extraction jobs are held by illegal immigrants in the U.S.” (Center of Immigration Studies, March, 2006)

300,000 of the construction jobs created by the stimulus package “could go” or “would” go to illegal immigrants. (Heritage Foundation February 4, 2009)

“$5.6 Billion in taxpayer dollars is spent on incarceration of illegal aliens.” (U.S. Illegal Aliens, P.F.Wagner)

Congressional candidate Ed Martin has invited Rep. Carnahan to join constituents of Missouri’s 3rd district at a town hall on May 12, 2010 to talk about common sense solutions to the growing problem of illegal immigration and encourage him to take action now.

IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Press Contact: Theresa Petry, (314) 807-7077

Obama travels Main Street; circulates nothing but hot air

(ST. LOUIS, MO.) April 28, 2010 – President Obama visits Missouri Wednesday to try and sell his plan to boost job growth and support small businesses but actions speak louder than words. All the rhetoric in the world can’t hide the actions Obama, with the help of an always-agreeing Rep. Carnahan, has taken that are detrimental to jobs and businesses.

An $862 billion dollar stimulus failed to create jobs just like those billion dollar bailouts didn’t save jobs. The proposed job-killing cap and trade would result in small businesses going belly-up and skyrocketing costs for consumers. The President needs to listen to Main Street and Rep. Carnahan to the people of Missouri’s third district. People simply want jobs not more government takeovers or money shoveled on a pile of problems.

However, some, like Rep. Carnahan’s brother Tom, greedily extend their open hands for federal money – taxpayer’s money. Tom Carnahan’s windmill farm was allocated $90 million in stimulus dollars. Rep. Carnahan is doing everything in his power to help his brother. He voted for the stimulus, favors cap and trade and it seems his perfect voting record with Obama is paying off too.

As part of Obama’s Midwest tour he was in Iowa yesterday touting wind energy and stimulus funding. The President even claimed, “And each new wind farm has the potential to create hundreds of construction jobs, and dozens of permanent local jobs…” (AP, Julie Pace, April 27, 2010) That’s wishful thinking for Obama and the Carnahan dynasty, but the reality is most of the jobs are going overseas. The Investigative Reporting Workshop analyzed which foreign firms accepted the most stimulus money.

It reported, “According to our estimates, about 6,000 jobs have been created overseas, and maybe a couple hundred have been created in the U.S.” (ABC News Feb. 10, 2010)

Wind farms like Tom Carnahan’s will profit from the cap and trade Carnahan and the President intend to push through, but Obama is going to have a hard time selling it to the local farmer he plans to visit here in Missouri. The Missouri Farm, among many others, is a vocal critic saying, “The negative implications are very strong for agriculture.” (Hannibal Courier-Post, April 27, 2010) Farmers in the third district continue to call on Rubberstamp Russ to take action against cap and tax. Janet Engelbach, a farm owner in Jefferson County, says “Cap and trade will run our business into the ground with higher production costs. Small businesses and farmers, like us, are the heart of this country and if Carnahan refuses to see the harmful impacts of it I’m afraid it will result in even more drastic job loss and destroy the American farmer.”

Third congressional candidate Ed Martin strongly opposes cap and trade. He has held countless meetings to hear the concerns of small business owners and farmers across the district. “Cap and tax is just more government intrusion into private industry. We’ve seen from the bailouts of the banks and car industry to the health industry that a government takeover of private business does two things – increases taxes and depletes jobs,” said Ed Martin’s campaign spokeswoman Theresa Petry.

If Rep. Carnahan decides to be seen with the President, during this trip, then we hope he takes the time to listen to the farmers and small business owners. He and Obama need to recognize the bona fide fears of farmers and small business owners and stop working against the people.
