Politico Says Carnahan Faces Tough Reelection

(ST. LOUIS, MO.) Feb. 18, 2010 – A report released by The Politico late this afternoon downgrades Rep. Russ Carnahan’s chances of being reelected. The article points to data collected by The Cook Political Report, an independent, non-partisan newsletter which analyzes elections and campaigns. Today it changed the 3rd District Congressional Race from solid Democrat to likely Democrat.

The Politico interpreted the data and in turn included the following in its article.

“Rep. Russ Carnahan (D-Mo), the brother of Missouri Senate candidate Robin Carnahan, is suddenly facing his first tough reelection against attorney Ed Martin, who starts the year with nearly as much campaign cash as the incumbent. The Cook Report now rates the once-safe seat, formerly held by former House Majority Leader Dick Gephardt, in “likely Democratic” territory.”(The Politico, Josh Kraushaar, Feb. 18, 2010)

“People are simply disgusted with what’s going on in Washington. You have a Congress that refuses to listen and instead keeps spending. The government has grown too big and too intrusive. When you have Congressman Carnahan, Pelosi, and Reid talking about taking over people’s healthcare you get a lot of people on edge and fired up. Too many are still without jobs and they’re frustrated. People are expressing their desire for a return to what our founders intended - the basic principles of the Constitution. Together we can make that happen,” said Congressional candidate Ed Martin.

The change in race rating from the Cook Political Report is based on “an evaluation of 2009 Year End finance reports and other developments in the races, we are changing our rates in 25 districts, all to reflect enhanced GOP chances,” stated House Editor David Wasserman.
