“Rubber Stamp Russ” Called Out by His Own Sister
(ST. LOUIS, MO.) Feb. 12, 2010 – The Carnahan clan seems to be at odds. Appearing on a morning radio talk show today Missouri Secretary of State, Robin Carnahan, blasted the out-of-control spending in Washington. “These guys have been spending like it’s going out of style and the long term impacts on our deficit are very real,” said Robin Carnahan. (Allman in the Morning. KFTK-FM. St. Louis. 12 Feb. 2010.)
Rather interesting statement since her brother Congressman Russ Carnahan is a big part of that spending habit. As a matter of fact just last week Congressman Carnahan voted to extend the debt limit increase. One year ago this month he was quick to approve a $787 Billion stimulus package. Of course his stimulus vote awarded his brother Tom $90 Million for a wind farm in Dekalb County, Missouri. Maybe that’s what Robin Carnahan was referring to this morning when she talked about how the folks in Washington needed to stop “…putting their own earmarks in the stimulus bill.”
Missouri’s Secretary of State went on to talk about how Washington needs to be fixed. “That’s what we need in Washington someone who is going to stand up to these folks not somebody who is in bed with them or somebody who’s taken a lot of money from these big corporate lobbyists…,” said Robin Carnahan. (Allman in the Morning. KFTK-FM. St. Louis. 12 Feb. 2010.)
Wow she must really be mad at her brother. It was as if she was publicly wagging her finger at him. It’s no secret that “Rubber Stamp Russ” was called out recently by the New York Times as being a leader in taking privately funded Congressional trips. And as a liberal Democrat you have to have screwed up pretty badly to be called out by the New York Times.
As Congressman Carnahan and his wife traveled from Australia to Italy on taxpayer money more and more jobs were and continue to be lost in Missouri’s 3rd district. Carnahan’s opponent, Congressional candidate Ed Martin, refuses to stand by and watch as thousands of electricians, carpenters, auto workers, health care workers and more continue to be laid off. “You can’t just keep throwing money at the problem. Just go to South St. Louis and talk to some of the people who have lost their jobs. Talk to the small business owners. They don’t want a band aid they want a long-term solution,” said Ed Martin. Martin travels all across the 3rd District listening to the people he hopes to serve. He has their interests at heart not some lobbyist willing to jet him off to exotic places. Maybe Congressman Carnahan should take the time to actually listen to his constituents. He might want to listen to his sister Robin too. She made a profound statement this morning saying, “I just think we need a change out there.” Thanks Ms. Carnahan we couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
