Pro-Life Congressional Candidate to Comment on “Controversial” Super Bowl Ad

It’s a sad day when the promotion of life and family is considered controversial.

(ST. LOUIS, MO.) Feb. 5, 2010 –  Advocacy groups, having not even seen the ad, are demanding CBS abort its decision to air a 30 second Super Bowl commercial by Focus on the Family. The conservative Christian group said the ad is part of a “Celebrate Life, Celebrate Family” campaign.

“It‟s a sad day when the promotion of life and family is considered controversial,” said 3rd District Congressional Candidate Ed Martin.

The ad, said to be very pro-family and inspirational by Focus on the Family, has apparently struck fear and outrage into such groups as Planned Parenthood and Women‟s Media Center. It stars Heisman trophy winner Tim Tebow and his mother Pam. The commercial is expected to show Pam recall her story of how, despite severe complications in her pregnancy, she declined medical advice to have an abortion. She then gave birth to her fifth child, Tim.

“How can anyone be offended that Pam Tebow chose to give birth? It‟s a positive story and we could use more of those right now. The President of Focus on the Family has stated there is nothing political about the ad and that it isn’t “anti” anything. The only judgment being passed with this ad is by groups like Planned Parenthood,” said Martin.

Martin is attending a Support Ed Martin for Congress Big Game party Sunday, Feb 7th. He will be premiering his own online ad for guests during half time with special guest Zip Rzeppa. Media is welcome to attend. It is being held at the home of one of his supporters. He will be available for comment regarding the Tebow commercial and his Pro-Life views Sunday. He will also be available Monday morning for any media wanting live interviews or additional comments.
