It’s not a game of Monopoly but there is sure to be a loser in this money game Congress insists on playing.
(ST. LOUIS, MO.) Feb. 4th, 2010 – In yet another fiscally irresponsible move the House is expected to pass another debt limit increase today. Apparently the $290 Billion increase just passed in December wasn’t enough to feed the spending addiction they’ve acquired or have planned for the future. The current proposed bill would extend the debt limit by $1.9 Trillion.
“As the rest of us count every penny and forego any frivolous spending just to make ends meet Congressman Russ Carnahan, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and their crew continue to whip out the charge card. Well they’ve maxed out their credit with the American people and it’s time someone confiscate their cards,” said 3rd District Congressional Candidate Ed Martin.
Back in December, when Congressman Carnahan voted to approve what seems to be one of many debt limit increases planned by liberals, he implied Congress had no choice. “The bottom line is, having the government shutdown is not an option,” said Carnahan. (AP Dec. 16th, 2009) However the increase in debt can be directly correlated to the 24% increase in government spending reported by the Senate Republican Policy Committee.
“Carnahan has yet to see a spending bill he doesn’t like. He may enjoy spending other people’s money but this isn’t a game of Monopoly. There is sure to be a loser in this money game Congress insists on playing – sadly it’s the hard working American people,” said Martin.
Carnahan obviously enjoys playing on other people’s dime. He was recently called out by the New York Times as being a leader in taking privately funded Congressional trips. But unlike those trips, there are no lobbyists or corporate giants paying for his and Speaker Pelosi’s out-of-control spending, the burden rests solely on the American people.
“As we cut up our credit cards and try desperately to pay off the balance bit by bit we see our own government takes out a loan – a loan on our future. They are using our children and grandchildren as collateral. They have total disregard for our future and the madness has to stop,” declared Martin.
