With $335,564 cash on hand, Martin closes in on Carnahan
(ST. LOUIS, Mo.) Feb. 1, 2010–Congressional Candidate Ed Martin raised an impressive $178,083 in the fourth fundraising quarter, bringing his campaign’s all important cash on hand amount to $335,564. The numbers, which were filed Sunday night, show Martin is closing in on incumbent Russ Carnahan’s cash in hand total of $372,000. Martin’s success represents yet another record-breaking quarter for the candidate, who raised $201,535 in the previous quarter – nearly $40,000 more than Carnahan raised in the same period.
“The high energy, grassroots support we’re getting from voters means we’re closer than ever to giving this district the representation it deserves,” said Martin. “While we work to give a voice to the voters and to fight for American jobs and against wasteful spending, Carnahan is fund-raising the same way he operates in Congress: by obeying Nancy Pelosi, paying attention to special interests, and getting payouts from political action committees. It’s embarrassing to all of us.”
Last month, more than 450 Missouri voters reached out to Martin’s campaign when they packed a south county banquet center for the candidate’s first-ever “Town Hall on Health Care.” Martin organized the event after Carnahan ignored repeated requests to meet with voters before voting on a final version of the health care bill.
This Tuesday, Feb. 2, at 7 p.m., Martin will hold another Town Hall - this time on jobs and the failed stimulus package that Carnahan voted for. The forum will take place in a meeting room adjacent to Surdyke Harley-Davidson’s showroom at 2435 Highway 67 in Festus in Jefferson County.
Martin is running against Carnahan in Missouri’s 3rd Congressional District, which includes south St. Louis, parts of west and south St. Louis County, and all of Jefferson and Ste. Genevieve Counties.
