IMMEDIATE RELEASE Press Contact: Theresa Petry, (314) 807-7077 Local Veterans rallied to make it happen (ST. LOUIS, MO.) September 2, 2010 – House Leader John Boehner announced todayhe will support congressional nominee Ed Martin in his pursuit of a seat on the Veterans’ Affairs Committee. Ed Martin has earned the support of local Veterans in his quest to serve them. Joe Frank, Past National Commander of the American Legion, sent a letter to area Veterans months ago asking them to support Ed Martin. In this letter Joe Frank not only explains why Ed Martin should be Missouri’s 3rd district representative but also how his appointment to the Veterans’ Affairs Committee benefits them. ![]() Congressman John Boehner and Joe Frank Ed Martin’s dedication to our Veterans is evident in the town halls, he began holding back in March, to address Veterans issues. He even formed a Veterans Advisory Group in which Joe Frank is the chairman. “With Ed Martin representing us in Congress, we will finally have a Congressman who will give us attention throughout the year – and not just when he seeks our votes,” Joe Frank told Veterans. Because of Ed Martin’s hard work and desire to serve our Veterans he wrote a letter to Leader John Boehner requesting his assistance in seeking a seat on the Veterans’ Affairs Committee. Thanks to the support of local Veterans – he was awarded the seat. “Ed Martin has my full support for a seat on the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee. America’s warriors and their families need a leader like Ed Martin who listens, understands the challenges they face, and is eager to address them. Ed also knows that the policies coming out of Washington lately – ‘stimulus’ spending sprees, costly mandates, and government takeovers – have failed our veterans. That’s why I look forward to working with Ed, the Republican leadership, and the Members of the Steering Committee to place him on the committee at the earliest possible opportunity,” said Republican House Leader John Boehner. “This means so much to me. To have such a showing of support from local Veterans is an honor I don’t take lightly. I will treasure the opportunity to be able to in turn serve them. I have a deep and vested interest in being appointed a seat on the Veterans’ Affairs Committee. I vow to honor them and serve their best interest,” said Ed Martin. The announcement from Leader John Boehner comes just days before he will stumping and fundraising for Ed Martin. John Boehner will be in St. Louis to support Ed Martin at a private fundraising event the evening of Saturday September 5th. IMMEDIATE RELEASE Ed Martin Launches Grassroots Program to Grow Jobs (ST. LOUIS, MO.) September 1, 2010 – Ed Martin continues to help spawn jobs in Missouri’s 3rd district. On the heels of earning the Missouri Farm Bureau’s endorsement; he is growing his Shop Local-Hire Local grassroots program to include area farmers and agricultural businesses. Today Ed Martin will be visiting with local farmers and small businesses at the Maplewood Farmers’ Market at 4pm. Ed Martin’s action plan for jobs, Shop Local-Hire Local, was created back in June after holding a number of roundtables with small business leaders and some 150 “Ask Ed Anything” meetings. Business owners and leaders continue to tell Ed Martin the so called “tax breaks” and “incentives” being offered to them are not being received and are not smartly targeted; they simply need customers. More customers will lead to the need for more employees. Shop Local-Hire Local focuses on publicly encouraging all Missourians to look to local businesses and local workers first. With agriculture being a major driver of the state and regional economy it makes good business sense to promote Shop Local-Hire Local. The sale of agriculture products contributed $37 million to the economy of Missouri’s 3rd District in 2007. A 2009 report by the Missouri General Assembly highlights that agriculture adds more than $12.4 billionannually to the Show-Me State economy and employs more than 245,000 people in our state. Ed Martin’s tireless outreach to farmers and businesses is just one of the many reasons why he earned the Missouri Farm Bureau’s endorsement. It was an honor bestowed on Congressman Carnahan in 2008 but Carnahan has not bothered to be engaged with farmers since then. Despite Congressman Carnahan, in a last ditch desperate attempt, trying to tout he’s working on legislation to try and create jobs; his constituents can’t be fooled. Congressman Carnahan voted in favor of the Cap and Trade bill – the very thing most small businesses and farmers all agree would be the most devastating to them. He is in essence working against them – not for them. And no one is soon to forget that he also gave his rubber stamp approval to the Auto Bailout which did nothing more than close the Chrysler plant in Fenton, put thousands out of work, and ship the jobs to Mexico and Canada. Congressman Carnahan has turned his back on the very people he is supposed to represent. “In order to create jobs you have to be willing to work hard yourself. This is why I am actively engaging in open dialect with farmers and small businesses and spreading the message of Shop Local-Hire Local. To find a good solution for the unemployment plaguing our district; one must first truly understand the problem and be involved. This is not the time to play bureaucratic games – people’s livelihoods are at stake. And I want to assure the people of Missouri’s 3rd district that I’m hitting the streets and farms working hard for them,” said Ed Martin. Ed Martin will be at the Maplewood Farmers’ Market at Schlafly Bottleworks located at 7260 Southwest Avenue at 4pm today. IMMEDIATE RELEASE (ST. LOUIS, MO.) August 31, 2010 – Ed Martin is pleased to announce he has earned the endorsement of the Missouri Farm Bureau! This announcement comes following a candidate interview with the Missouri Farm Bureau last night. While the MO Farm Bureau endorsed Congressman Carnahan in 2008 he did not even bother to make an appearance last night. Meanwhile Ed Martin has been traveling the district reaching out to farmers and those in the agriculture business for the past year. In June, he created an Agricultural Advisory Group to address particular concerns facing farmers. Earlier this month Ed Martin spent the day touring farms and agricultural businesses to witness first-hand the struggles they face. Included on the tour were: Meert Tree Farm (Festus), Martin Dairy (Pevely), Eckenfels Farm (Ste. Gen.), Naeger Forestry Products (Ste. Gen.), and Crown Valley Vineyards, Winery, and Brewhouse (Ste. Gen). Ed Martin is taking the time to listen to farmers and small businesses and he’s hearing overwhelmingly that the Cap-and-Trade bill, for which Congressman Russ Carnahan gave his rubber stamp of approval, is of utmost concern to them. The Missouri Farm Bureau, among many others, is a vocal critic of this government’s activism saying, “The negative implications are very strong for agriculture.” (Hannibal Courier-Post, April 27, 2010) “More than ever before, farmers and ranchers are literally fearful of what the federal government is planning to do in terms of cap and trade, the Clean Water Restoration Act, possible government run federal health care and spending that is out of control,” said Charles Kruse, Missouri Farm Bureau President. (Missouri Ruralist, Dec 14, 2009) “This current Congress seems determined to pass cap and trade and our farmers and small businesses are beyond concerned – they are downright fearful,” said David Reed, MO Farm Bureau board of directors (2007-2009). “We need someone like Ed Martin who will take the time to listen and learn, someone who will in fact represent us. We can’t afford to allow anyone to simply rubberstamp a bill on anything.” Agriculture is a major driver of the state and regional economy. The sale of agriculture products contributed $37 million to the economy of Missouri’s 3rd District in 2007. IMMEDIATE RELEASE Joins Family Feud and Attacks Carnahan for his TARP Vote (ST. LOUIS, MO.) August 30, 2010 – Even the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is criticizing Congressman Carnahan! In an ad released this weekend the DSCC apparently blasts all those who voted in favor of the bailouts – in particular TARP. A CNN article says the DSCC’s ad “condemns…voting for the federal government’s massive bailout of the financial industry in 2008.” (CNN, Jeff Simon, August 28, 2010) We can only assume its criticism includes all Democrats since – “The bill passed largely due to the support of Democrats – 172 of them voted for the bailout package.” Congressman Carnahan was among those quick to cast his vote in favor of the Troubled Asset Relief Program, which amounted to a $700 billion Wall Street bailout. When Carnahan’s own party comes out in such a strong, critical and public manner against him – it speaks volumes. His own sister, Missouri Secretary of State, Robin Carnahan has called out her brother on this too. Robin adds fuel to this ongoing Family Feud by pointing out the bailouts lacked accountability. She said repeatedly on a talk radio program on KFTK on February 14, 2010 with host Jamie Allman that “I would have demanded accountability.” “Her brother Russ Carnahan should have demanded some accountability when he voted in favor of the Chrysler bailout too. But he did nothing – as taxpayer money was given to the car company and they in turn shipped our local jobs across our country’s borders. Robin is right to criticize her brother and his rubberstamp votes,” said 3rd district congressional nominee Ed Martin. The Ed Martin campaign agrees with Robin and the DSCC; Russ Carnahan needs to go! We have had two events that we hoped Russ Carnahan would attend. We made all the preparations we could to have a civil debate about jobs, spending and now health care. We were unable to coax Russ Carnahan into a meeting with the people to share his legislative achievements, such as the attempt to pass Cap and Trade, the increased taxes on estates he allowed to occur, bailouts, the stimulus bill, the other stimulus bills and the crowning achievement, Obamacare. We scheduled these meetings since Congressman Carnahan will be back in Washington DC after the August recess. We believe Russ Carnahan’s “Phone a Friend” town halls and tightly controlled public events are a disservice to his responsibility to communicate with the people he represents. Congressman Carnahan is still welcome to come to the final event we have scheduled at the Drury Inn in St. Louis City. Perhaps he can join the earnest young people who show up to videotape me on his behalf. In any case, we would like to see you all there. The topic is Health Care. We are meeting in St. Louis City this time, at the location below. Please plan to attend, and invite friends who you think will be interested in hearing my position on health care. In the likely event Congressman Carnahan does not attend, I will make time for more questions. Martin Carnahan DebateMartin Town HallAugust 31 -6:30-8pm Drury Hotel Ballroom, IMMEDIATE RELEASE Seems Carnahan has no time for KMOX, League of Women Voters, the People’s Church or the People (ST. LOUIS, MO.) August 30, 2010 – It seems the Ed Martin campaign isn’t the only one Congressman Carnahan is ignoring regarding offers to debate. KMOX called Ed Martin weeks ago in an attempt to schedule a debate between him and Congressman Carnahan. Ed responded immediately saying, “any day, any time.” There is still no word on when or even if a radio debate may occur. The League of Women Voters, at Congressman Carnahan’s suggestion, was asked to coordinate two debates. Ed Martin again quickly responded, “any time.” Martin’s campaign has offered a number of dates in September yet the people are still waiting for confirmation. The People’s Church in Arnold, a non-partisan organization, sent letters to Congressman Carnahan and Ed Martin on June 10, 2010 requesting both appear for an open forum at the church. Ed Martin readily accepted. However two months later a call to the church recently confirmed Carnahan has yet to respond to it too. A spokesperson for the church said they tried several times to get in touch with Congressman Carnahan and even sent a registered letter – all to no avail. “At the end of the day, Congressman Carnahan has no time for any of the duties of serving as a representative,” said Ed Martin. “It’s like one of his constituents said to me ‘Mr. Carnahan doesn’t seem to want the job – he’s not for us.’” Ed Martin has made repeated efforts encouraging Congressman Carnahan attend three debates he was willing to set up; Carnahan has yet to even acknowledge any effort. But Ed Martin is forging ahead and holding his third and final debate/town hall in which he will address the questions of constituents. Tuesday night’s debate topic is Health Care Reform. It follows two previous debate topics; National Debt, Spending, and Stimulus and the first one on American Jobs. If Congressman Carnahan again chooses to be a no-show the moderator will suggest constituents send their questions to the Congressman via email or phone call for his response. We hope they at least get a response. * Tuesday night -6:30-8pm: “Health Care” – Drury Hotel Ballroom, 2111 Sulphur Ave (St. Louis City) For more information about Martin’s background and the campaign, visit EdMartinforCongress.com, or follow him on Facebook and Twitter @ed4congress. IMMEDIATE RELEASE Despite No Reply from Carnahan; Ed Martin Continues with Town Hall/Debate (ST. LOUIS, MO.) August 24, 2010 – Despite repeated efforts encouraging Congressman Carnahan to attend three debates; he has yet to even acknowledge Ed Martin’s efforts to discuss the issues publicly with the constituents of Missouri’s 3rd district. But without hesitation Ed Martin is proceeding with his plan to talk to the people. “I’m not going to sit back and watch as Congressman Carnahan plays a game of “hide and seek” while so many of our families, friends, and neighbors are in distress over their future. The debate shouldn’t be over debates and who wants what and when. If he truly wants to represent the people then he shouldn’t be afraid to confront them and talk about the real issues concerning folks– jobs, spending and health care. I do want to represent the people and have said time and time again I’m willing to debate anytime because I feel voters deserve to know where I stand and how and why I want to represent them,” said congressional nominee Ed Martin. Tonight’s debate with the topic of National Debt, Spending, and Stimulus will follow similar rules as last week’s on American Jobs. There will be a short introduction of the debaters (if Congressman Carnahan does not attend an excerpt from his website bio will be read.) Then questions will be read and each person given three and a half minutes to reply. While several of last week’s questions stemmed from questions already answered by Congressman Carnahan on KTVI’s Jaco Report; tonight’s questions will come from the people. If Congressman Carnahan again chooses to be a no-show the moderator will suggest constituents send their questions to the Congressman via email or phone call for his response. We truly hope to hear from Congressman Carnahan. Debate details are below *Tonight – August 24 -6:15-8pm: “National Debt/Spending/Stimulus” – Roy Wilde Conference Center– 849 Jeffco Blvd., Arnold (Jefferson County) *August 31 -6:30-8pm: “Health Care” – Drury Hotel Ballroom, 2111 Sulphur Ave (St. Louis City) For more information about Martin’s background and the campaign, visit EdMartinforCongress.com, or follow him on Facebook and Twitter @ed4congress. If you’re searching for some of these long shots who are looking shorter these days, here is a dirty baker’s dozen of GOP challengers to keep an eye on. They’re underfunded, unrecognized, rarely mentioned, and given no chance . . . and they may just win anyway. 1. Ed Martin vs. Russ Carnahan, Missouri’s 3rd District. Reasons the challenger should have no chance: It’s a D+7 district on the Cook Partisan Voting Index. Russ Carnahan won with 66 percent of the vote in 2004. The Carnahan name is supposed to be magic in Missouri politics, and his sister Robin is running for Senate. Reasons the challenger has a chance: Robin Carnahan’s lousy polling indicates that the family name doesn’t carry the weight it once did. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch has already declared that Martin is “giving Carnahan the toughest general election campaign of his congressional career.” A recent poll puts Martin within striking distance, 39 percent to 48 percent. Repeal Russ Money Match – Over $2000 left in matching funds!Your contribution of any amount, $10, $25, even $100 will be matched dollar for dollar, and will allow us to not be quite so “under funded” and “unrecognized”! We’ll use your support for yard signs, phone banks, literature and the media we’ll need to keep the campaign in the hunt. Many people depend upon Russ Carnahan’s profligate spending and are willing to defend their gravy train. Will you join me in defending our freedom and putting an end to Nancy Pelosi’s term as speaker of the House?
Update – The debate on Tuesday, August 24th will be held at:Roy Wilde Conference Center
